Botox and Fillers

Botox and Fillers

It’s natural to want to look your best. Superficial or not, your outside appearance is your first impression to the world. Why wouldn’t you want to make the best impression possible? Today, men and women alike do whatever they can to put their best foot forward. Hair dye, manicures, and pedicures are commonplace Hours are invested at the gym to keep fit. Diet books fly off the shelves as people hope to find the best way to lose weight. More and more frequently, people are turning to medical spas for modern and fairly noninvasive treatments that can keep the years at bay.

There are so many treatments available to reduce and improve the signs of aging that it can be hard to choose the one that’s right for you. Options range from fillers to Botox, and now, even a form of a more natural botox—all options to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. So how do you choose?

Botox vs. Fillers

Before you can choose the treatment that’s right for you, it’s important to understand exactly what you are choosing. Botox and fillers are both designed to reduce wrinkles, but they get at the problem in different ways.

What is Botox?

Botox is a chemical toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum that temporarily paralyzes and relaxes muscles. But, don’t let that scare you! Scientists have figured out how to purify this toxin and directly inject it into the muscles specifically responsible for dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle contractions that crinkle and fold the skin. Relaxing the muscles reduces the appearance of existing wrinkles and prevents new wrinkles from forming.

Botox is a great treatment for dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines between the eyebrows, moderate to severe crow’s feet by the eyes, and deep smile lines on the face. Over time, Botox wears off and the muscles regain the ability to move, so the wrinkles will reappear. The treatment should last for three to six months, depending on the individual.

Is Botox Safe?

Absolutely! Botox is one of the safest products on the market. It has been tested and used for decades, so there is a lot of research to back it up. Like any medical treatments, using Botox does come with the risk of side effects. Fine needles will be used to inject Botox in the desired areas. There may be bruising or swelling at the injection site, but you should be able to proceed with your normal activities.

Are There Any Natural Botox Treatments

Are There Any Natural Botox Treatments?

If you are looking for a more natural form of botox, consider using Xeomin. Xeomin is a prescription medication containing botulinum protein type A, the same protein found in traditional Botox. It works in the same way by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause lines to develop. The treatment takes just ten to twenty minutes. Most patients found that their lines visibly reduced in under one week and lasted for up to 3 months. If you are curious about using natural Botox to visibly reduce lines on your face, talk to your doctor about Xeomin.

If Botox or Xeomin are not for you, fillers are another great way to treat the signs of aging. Fillers works by “filling in” wrinkles and folds, such as the deep lines between the eyebrows or creases by the mouth, with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and supports the strength and elasticity of our skin, but the supply diminishes with age. As the amount of hyaluronic acid decreases over time, our skin develops lines and wrinkles. Adding back hyaluronic acid through fillers gently adds volume to the skin in these areas, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and providing a more youthful look.

One filler that provides great results is Revanesse, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Revanesse has been in use for almost two decades, so it has a proven track record that you can trust. The results are subtle, so patients look younger without looking like they had any dramatic work done. And while Botox and Xeomin work best on deep creases, Revanesse works on both deep creases and fine lines, making it a more versatile anti-aging treatment. Additionally, it is not limited to the face--patients have had great results on other parts of the body, including the hands! A youthful face with a wrinkly neck and hands is a dead giveaway of cosmetic work. Consider treating these areas along with the face to give a more youthful overall appearance. Fillers provide long-lasting results, around 18 to 24 months, with the results gradually fading over time as the body absorbs the filler.

Are Fillers Safe?

Fillers have been around for a long time and have been well studied by medical professionals, so you can feel comfortable using them. Like Botox, Revanesse is injected with fine needles, so there may be some redness and swelling at the injection site.
